This event aims to curb abuse of pills

Threat no. 1 for adolescents is a misuse and abuse of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

To help educate about threats and giving people the chance to properly dispose of medications that might fall into the wrong hands, Robertson County Community Coalition and the Drug Enforcement Administration are hosting “take back the day” next Saturday.

Coalition members and local law enforcement will collect prescription and over-the-counter medicines for safe disposal of 10 am-2 PM at two locations: the first Baptist Church parking lot, 105 w. Davis St. in Hearne, and Franklin’s Supermarket car park, 611 w. U.s. Highway 79. The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.

Bryan Police Department will also collect the drug at the station from 10 a.m. to 2 nights at St 29 303 Eastbound.

Words of Carrie Kenney, Robertson County Community Coalition Coordinator, the best way to prevent abuses is to monitor every single drug at home and properly disposing of people who are not required. Kenney said 70 percent of teens get medications from friends and family, and out of home Medicine Cabinet.
